Funding Resources

The following University units and organizations provide funding and grants to individual students, student organizations, University faculty/staff, and other community members. If you are a CIO seeking funding from Student Council, please see the Funding Resources page.


College Council

College Council is responsible for appropriating funds from the College of Arts & Sciences school fee - paid by all students in the College. Financial support is available for organizations and/or individuals furthering the mission of the College, inlcuding:

  • Students seeking research funding

  • RAs seeking funding for a residential event

  • CIOs seeking event funding

  • Professors seeking funding for a class event


PUBLIC SERVICE PROGRAMMING BOARD (PSPB)

The PSPB supports the development and implementation of public service programming by allocating funding to student-run initiatives that promote public service, civic engagement, and service learning. The following groups are eligible for funding:

  • CIOs, SSOs, and FOAs

  • Residential life groups

  • Students enrolled in academic courses with service-learning components

The Jefferson Trust

The Jefferson Trust provides discretionary funding to trustee-selected projects that advance or enhance the University’s standing as a preeminent global institution of higher educaiton. Trustees evaluate applications, provide grant-based funding, and offer stewardship towards project execution.


UVA Career Center

The UVA Career Center offers a number of scholarships and grants for funding assistance for summer internships and other career-building activities. Areas covered include:

  • Travel

  • Housing/accomodations

  • Living expenses

  • Tuition and fees for placement programs, course credit, or unpaid programs.


Office of Citizen Scholar Developement

The Office of Citizen Scholar Development is the fellowships office of the University of Virginia. We use the process of applying for fellowships as a catalyst to further the personal, social, intellectual, and professional development of UVA students and alumni as citizens and scholars, people who are thoughtful, ethical, and mutually connected to their communities.

Dedicated to fairness, equity, and accessibility, we provide students with accurate information, guide them through reflection and discernment, equip them to seek wise counsel and healthy mentoring relationships, challenge them to articulate goals and to act, and support them in competing at the highest level.

UVA Strategic Investment Fund

The UVA Strategic Investment Fund soliticts grant proposals on a rolling basis. Funding is granted to exceptional opportunities or programs with the potential to:

  • Transform a critical area of knowledge or operation

  • Further research progress of the University

  • Materially enhance the quality of the academic experience

  • Support an affordable and excellent education for Virginians

  • Expand economic development in the Commonwealth

Best Colleges

BestColleges is a third-party, non-University nonprofit organization which helps connect students to scholarships, grants, and other forms of financial aid. There are numerous support resources for students of diverse backgrounds or who identify with marginalized communities. More information on these resources and how to connect with them can be found on the BestColleges website.

Public Service Degrees

Public Service Degrees is a third-party, non-University nonprofit organization which offers resources to low-income or homeless/displaced students.
